The Edward Lebert School of Leadership
Building great organizations one leader at a time
Christian Book Review
In the book of Revelation we are told the sons and daughters of God are to be priests and leaders in the Kingdom, serving God with all their heart, soul and mind. But how does the believer claim his birthright and become the steward and great leader he is called to be?
In Lord in the Kingdom, Mike McPherson gives seven lessons for the executive who wants to lead by the will of God and prosper others through his business or organization.
Lessons 1 and 2 deal with personal transformation. Through provocative revelation, the author helps you understand the sin nature of man, the enemy of man and the roadmap for overcoming these hurdles that separate the Christian from Christ and fulfilling your destiny as a lord in the Kingdom.
Lesson 3 is a prophetic declaration of nine roles or societal archetypes contained in God’s blueprint for society. McPherson gives you the keys to discovering your true purpose and which of the nine archetypes you were designed for in God's master plan.
Lesson 4 teaches you how to develop the values and mission statement for a successful, purpose driven organization. The nine principles you learn help develop a business that prospers the lives of employees, customers and the communities they serve.
Lessons 5-7 then help you manage, deal with change and grow your business or organization using the most successful biblical and servant leadership principles of the world’s best run organizations.
Lord in the Kingdom is a provocative, short read eBook that every believer needs to read when he or she is called to lead. ELS Book Review

EXCERPT - Lord in the Kingdom
In Lord in the Kingdom, we provide a spiritual guide for those called to lead. The path starts in an examination of the anthropological, psychological, and biblical constructs of man. Once an understanding of self, purpose, man’s nature and Kingdom principles are gained, it helps the leader fully understand the people, policies and practices which are central to great organizations.
In Lesson 1, the chapters; The common nature of man, The human psyche, Why good people do bad things, and Understanding prejudice, we help the leader understand self and the pitfalls to great leadership. We find it is the ego at the root of pride, prejudice, and man’s weakness to the spirit of malevolence in this world. It is man’s ego that separates him from God and destroys more organizations, governments, lives and leaders that any other force. Understanding the true nature of man leads us to the wisdom that fortifies the leader’s spirit, and knowledge of how to govern the wayward he is called to lead.
Then in Lesson 2, the Commitment to the perfect life, we learn the path to great leadership rests on the perfection of character in the image of Jesus Christ. We find that it is the commitment to the perfect life as modeled by Jesus Christ that is the armor that strengthens the leader in all storms. It is growing into the spirit and nature of God that molds a leader into a “man after God’s own heart” and reveals one’s purpose and assignment. It is the commitment to the perfect life which releases God’s blessings, power, comfort and wisdom to the leader, while strengthening him against the evil that comes to destroy. No leader can attain greatness without first being great in spirit.
Great leaders then build great organizations by utilizing a framework based on principles in the Kingdom of God. It starts by discovering both individual and organizational purpose which we discuss in Lessons 3-4, The nine societal archetypes, and The purpose driven organization. And then we deal with change and creating a winning culture in Lessons 5-7; Change management, Kingdom principles and workplace culture, and The human side of management.
In the end we discover the path to greatness is a choice. Those who were called to lead and did so grandly led from their spirit. Their personal values were the same values manifested in the organization. And when the spirit was based in Christ, greatness resulted, not only in economic terms but also in the quality of lives touched.
It is my hope in sharing with you these revelations, that you become known as a good steward, counselor, wise and wonderful. That you develop into a leader who is a beacon for God’s will and a blessing to others in the appointed time and place.
